World’s Best Wakeboarders Gather in Lyme Regis

Dominik Hernler takes the win at Lyme Regis in the Red Bull Harbour Reach wakeboarding competitionThe seaside resort of Lyme Regis played host to some of the world’s best wakeboarders at the weekend. Glorious sunshine drenched the beaches of West Dorset, where over 6,000 spectators gathered for the launch of the RNLI Lifeboat week. The program of events kicked off with the Red Bull Harbour Reach 2012 wakeboarding competition, which pitted 16 elite riders against one another in a battle of aerial dexterity.

Red Bull Harbour Reach competition is one of the most testing and progressive professional wakeboarding competitions in the U.K. The contest involves competitors leaping over the harbour walls in the most stylish and slick way possible. With a width of eight meters, completing the jump successfully is no small feat. It is one of the most gruelling physical and mental wakeboarding tests hosted in Great Britain and acts as an excellent platform for demonstrations of elite riding skill.

2012 competition attracted some of the biggest names in wakeboarding from across the U.K. and the rest of the world. The top wakeboarders included Sam Carne (last year’s winner), JD Webb (2008 Rider of the Year) and Adam Errington (2007 Rookie of the Year). As well as jumping the harbour wall, the competition includes a quarter pipe, a 50ft fun box and 30ft pipe slider.

After a hard fought competition Dominik Hernler emerged as the overall winner after a spectacular Oh-Lay 720 pushed him into the lead, ahead of American competitor, Adam Errington. Third place went to British rider James Young, who put in a strong performance in the final round of the competition.
