Skateboarding phenomenon, Vans Downtown Showdown landed in Amsterdam earlier this week, bringing some of the best riders in the world with it.

Vans annual celebration of skate ingenuity touched down in the Netherlands this week, when the European Downtown Showdown descended on the Amsterdam, setting up shop at the Westergasfabriek (the Western Gas Factory), the city’s famous post industrial culture park. 8,000 skate fans packed out the venue, eager to get a glimpse of some of Europe’s and America’s best skaters in action.
This year’s DTSD promised to be even bigger and better than before, combining pro skate with art, music, movie screenings and much, much more. Amongst the luminary brands taking part at the 2012 event were Zero Skateboards, Toy Machine, Spitfire, Flip, Yama, Antiz, Cliche, Blueprint, Cliche and Palace.
Downtown Showdown is now in its sixth year. The yearly contest is unlike any other. The obstacles and ramps skated are all designed by the participating teams and always reflect the culture of the host city (think windmills, gouda, spliffs and tulips for Amsterdam).
As usual, there were big money prizes up for grabs for the participating pros and ams. Luan Oliveira from Team Flip took the best overall pro accolade, whilst Ross McGouran of Element was awarded the best overall amateur title. Flip was declared the best team, followed by Element and Antiz.
