The Adrenaline Buzz – Worth More Than Pieces of Gold!

*** For your opportunity to win an amazing trip to New Zealand for you and three mates, see the details below ***

There are two sayings that are as true today as they were when they were first coined years ago. The first is that old cliche that you only get one shot at life, so make the most of it whilst you can. The second is that no matter how much money you earn, you definitely can’t take it with you. As Horace once sagely urged, we must “seize the day” because no one knows what the future holds. Life is impoverished when inspirational experiences are absent and owning a lot of stuff is definitely no substitute. A healthy bank balance or a fleet of expensive cars won’t even come close to enriching your life in the same way that doing the things you love will. Life should be lived and enjoyed, not merely observed.

For most extreme sports enthusiasts, the belief that experience is more valuable than material possessions is not just a conviction, it is a way of life. Whether you are talking to a skater, a freerunner, a surfer or a rock climber, you’ll soon work out that for them, scoring a regular adrenaline buzz is often amongst their top priorities. But why not go further? There is a whole world of mind-blowing excitement out there, waiting to be discovered and explored. From Timbuktu to Ulan Bator, the world is a metaphorical oyster for those of us blessed with an adventurous mindset.

If you do embark on a global thrill search,New Zealand should definitely be high on your list of intended destinations. It is a place like no other on Earth, with a physical geography that reveals the splendorous might of Mother Nature in all her majestic glory. The antipodean nation offers international guests something very special and unique in the way of life-enriching experiences. Any British tourist lucky enough to visit is guaranteed to come away with a clutch of memories that will be with them for life. One of the jewels in the Kiwi natural crown is the amazing mountain ranges that span the two principal islands. Offering year-round snow, the mountain slopes of New Zealand are justly recognised as providing some of the most epic skiing conditions in the world. For many snow sports fanatics (including this one), a trip to the Southern Alps would be a true adventure of a lifetime.

What would I give up?

Pedro Pufferfish!

I was a weird kid when I was growing up. My brother used to say that I lived in a museum, because by bedroom was filled with loads of different natural history specimens, from sharks’ jaws to preserved tarantulas.

One of my most cherished possessions was a pufferfish my Dad bought for me when we were on holiday in North Africa. Unfortunately, my love of natural history at the time didn’t extend to boycotting dead animal ornaments! Getting the pufferfish (who I named Pedro) back to the U.K. was no small feat. Customs were particularly intrigued by what we were bringing across the border. Thankfully Pedro made it home.

As I’ve grown older, most my natural history specimens have either been binned or given away, but Pedro has remained with me, as one of my most cherished possessions. That said, I’d give him up for a chance to experience the otherworldly environment of New Zealand and the Southern Alps.
