Gain Weight and Go For Gold.

Shanaze Reade has revealed that gaining weight is part of her plan to take Olympic gold at London 2012British BMX World Champion, Shanaze Reade, has revealed that she is experimenting with her weight in order to find her optimum 2012 physique. Reade, who was crowned the Elite Women’s World Champion in 2010, 2009 and 2008, is considered by many to be one of the U.K.’s best hopes for gold at the London 2012 Olympic Games. She convincingly won the BMX Olympic test event earlier this year and was only prevented from defending her world champion title this year due to injury. Her recent revelation that she and her trainer are experimenting with weight gain in order to maximise her potential for success is a further indication that Reade is fully focused on delivering a gold for Team GB in 2012.
Olympic gold must surely be at the apex of achievement for any pro-sportsperson, but in Reade’s case securing the top medal in London next year is a matter of personal score-settling. At the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, the gods of luck were not on Reade’s side. She had been heavily tipped for top medal success, but a crash in the final saw her fail to complete the race. Add to this the fact that Reade has become the subject of significant public attention in the U.K. over the passed year, and you can understand why the young sportswomen is so fully focused on success. Her performance in 2012 will have resonance for proud British sports fans across the country; Reade is now an icon of national sporting pride.
Reade is the only female British contestant competing in the BMX event at London 2012. In fact, other than Reade, the U.K. has only one other BMX rider in line to compete – Liam Phillips. Until recently, Phillips had taken a sojourn away from BMX to concentrate on competitive track sprint instead. However, the allure of the BMX track proved too much for 22-year-old, who rejoined the BMX training program earlier this year. All reports indicate that Phillips is on track to qualify for the BMX event. He is again demonstrating the considerable riding form that previously marked him out as one to watch.
