Massive Freestyle Festival Rocks Zurich.

Zurich was shaken to its core last week by yet another epic installment of the world’s largest freestyle festival – Freestyle.ch 2012. Audiences in excess of thirty thousand people crowded into the open air venue and were treated to blisteringly hot displays of freestyle snowboarding, BMX, MTB and FMX. The highlight of the festival for most was the extraordinary crossover section, which combined skiing and snowboarding into one mega display of freestyling awesomeness.

This year saw the inclusion of MTB dirt jumping for the first time in the festival’s 18 year long history. Organisers finally relented to requests to add the discipline to their roster of sports after they were inundated with literally thousands of Facebook messages and comments imploring them to do so. Martin Soederstroem was stoked to be declared the first ever Freestyle.Champ in MTB Dirt Jumping, after a hard fought battle that saw big names from across the world competing for the accolade.

The 25-year-old reigning World Champion rider from the East Coast of the United States adds the gong to an ever growing pile awards, collected over the past 15 years. Meanwhile, the freeskier award went to Henrik Harlaut of Sweden, who kept the momentum of an impressive year so far, that has also included being named Skier of the Year by Freeskier.com.
