Ben Wallace Crowned BMX Emperor!

British BMX rider, Ben Wallace, took a sensational win on home ground yesterday at Red Bull’s inaugural Empire of Dirt competition. The mammoth competition was hosted at London’s historic Alexandra Palace and attracted the very best of international BMX talent, including Mike Clark, Drew Benzanson, Kye Forte and Ryan Nyquist. The event also drew in a capacity audience, selling the entire ticket allocation well in advance of the competition.

In all, 32 elite international riders took part in the opening qualifiers, which took place on Saturday 19th May. The group was then reduced down to just 16 competitors for the final on Sunday. Ben Wallace had taken pole position on day one with a stunning display of mastery and skill. He continued with this excellent form at the finals, scoring a convincing win almost three points ahead of his nearest rival, US rider Ryan Nyquist. Canadian Drew Benzanson took the third place position on the champion’s podium.

Red Bull’s Empire of Dirt competition has been described as the U.K.’s biggest ever BMX event. It was the brainchild of Kye Forte, who personally oversaw the design and construction of the course. In all, 3,500 tonnes of sand and soil were imported into the grounds of Alexandra Palace, then moulded and shaped into the competition course, creating one of the most progressive and challenging BMX tracks in the world.
