Aussie Squad Gets Preview of Olympic BMX Track.

Team Australia at London 2012 - Caroline Buchanan, Khalen Young, Sam Willoughby, Brian Kirkham, Lauren ReynoldsAustralia’s national BMX squad got a preview of the London Olympic track after they were given the opportunity to train at the facility ahead of the upcoming World Championships. The elite Aussie riders, who’ve travelled from the other side of the globe in order to compete for international titles in Birmingham this weekend, leapt at the chance of sampling the much hyped London Olympic BMX track in advance of the Games.
Amongst the riders at the training session was 21-year-old Caroline Buchanan, who took silver at last year’s World Championships, finishing just 0.187 seconds behind British rider, Shanaze Reade. Caroline is currently ranked No 1 in the world. She has an impressive haul of Australian national titles to her name (11 in total) and is widely recognised as one of the biggest threats to Shanaze Reade’s reign as BMX World Champion.
Speaking to the media, Caroline Buchanan said that her visit to the Olympic track had given her “goose bumps”, but also inspired her to focus on “rising to a new level”. Before Buchanan can compete at the Olympics, she will need to be confirmed as a member of the Australia team. So far, there have been no confirmed nominations for the Australian Olympic BMX team. The riders’ performance at the World Championships in Birmingham will have a big influence on who is chosen to compete at the London Games.
