Artem Silchenko Takes The Win at Third Round of Cliff Diving World Series

Artem Silchenko snatches the victory from Orlando Duque with a lead of just 0.1 points at the third stage of the Cliff Diving World SeriesRussian cliff diver, Artem Silchenko, took the win at the third round of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series by one of the narrowest margins ever witnessed at the competition. He beat veteran competitor, Orlando Duque into second place by scoring a lead of just 0.1 points over him. The nail biting contest, which took place on the Atlantic islands of the Azores was watched by crowds of fascinated spectators, who were treated to an unusually close finish.

British cliff diver, Gary Hunt, came third in the third stage of the competition, trailing Duque by 6.05 points. Silchenko’s win did little to alter the overall standings of the competition so far. First-placed Duque and second-placed Hunt remain the front-runners, with just 10 points separating the two (450 points and 440 points respectively). Steve Lobue from the United States remains in third place, 80 points behind Hunt with a score of 360, whilst the winner of stage three, Artem Silchenko, comes in fourth with 300 points.

Former British Olympic diver Blake Aldridge has so far fallen short of the dazzling performance he put in at the Australian qualifiers, back at the start of the year. He is currently ranked 11th out of 16 in the overall standings, having notched up a score of 119. (just one point behind French competitor Cyrille Oumedjkane). However, given that this is only the second year that Aldridge has participated in cliff diving, his achievement remains impressive. If he finds his stride in the next few rounds, we could easily see Aldridge climb the leaderboard quickly.

The next stop of the Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series will also be in the Atlantic Ocean, but this time in slightly colder waters than the subtropical seas of the Azores. The 4th stage of the championship will take place in Inis Mor in the Republic of Ireland. This stage will mark the midway point of the competition.
